Genealogy Insider: Fabric of Their Lives
6/11/2014
Communities’ stories are told in the threads of signature quilts.
To a genealogist, a name can mean everything. To those who collect signature quilts, a name can be just the starting point.

Part of the fun of owning and collecting signature quilts is tracking down the names scribed on the fabric. “Signature quilts are full of evidence of who made them, where, when and sometimes why,” says Lorie Chase. She’s a quilt historian and co-curator (along with Laura Lane) of “Women’s Writes: Signature Quilts and Their Stories,” an upcoming exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Mass.
