Meet Our 2010 Difference Maker of the Year

Family Tree Magazine began the Difference Maker series to celebrate genealogy’s unsung heroes—volunteers who’ve preserved historical records or eased access to them, helped those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to learn about their family history, or raised the profile of genealogy research.

 

From the volunteers our readers nominated, we profiled one person in each 2009 Family Tree Magazine. Then it was your turn to choose a Difference Maker of the Year—and you chose Gail Reynolds, a library volunteer and genealogy teacher in Myrtle Beach, SC, who appeared in our July 2009 issue. “She has made a difference for hundreds as she guides novices into genealogy lovers,” commented one of Reynolds’ students.

 

“I’ve seen some of Gail Reynolds’ work,” a college instructor wrote. “She’ll get you maybe not through that brick wall but under it or over it. She’ll go to unmeasurable lengths to help you—and enjoy every moment.”

 

Reynolds will receive a year of Family Tree Magazine and $100 to use toward one of her volunteer projects. Congratulations to all the nominees—you have the thanks of family historians everywhere for helping them learn about their heritage.
