In addition to the huge catchall pedigree databases, specialized databases have emerged. Most focus on a particular ethnic group or region. Here's a look at some of the best:
Acadian-Cajun Family Trees

The GEDBAS Web site is a free German-language version of the 1.7 million-name GEDCOM database.

This French ancestor-search site offers a free index of 85.5 million names on other Web sites. Extra features are $40 a year.
Ohio River Valley Families Genealogical Database

For $9 for six months or $12 a year, you can access 97,816 residents of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia and Illinois.
Old Colony Ancestors

Search 4 million names for free; however, some databases are password-protected. Tribal Pages hosts personal genealogy sites for family researchers all over the world.
