Legacy Family Tree 3.0 Review
9/27/2009
Millennia releases version 3.0 of its genealogy software.

The key to the newest Legacy Family Tree software is in the numbers. Legacy 3.0 is a 32-bit program, which means (computer lingo aside) that it runs faster, but you'll need a Pentium processor and Windows 95 or higher to use it. In all, version 3.0 of Millennia Corp.'s easy-to-use software includes 50 new features and enhancements, such as:

Speed—publish Web pages, import GEDCOM files, create tags and calculate relationships faster
To Do List—allows you to sort and keep track of your research tasks
Quick Bookmarks—jump easily to key individuals in your file
Photos—scan and crop photos from within Legacy
Improved Internet support—one-click button to access online functions
Expanded notes—include up to 1 million characters (potentially hundreds of pages) in each field
Events—add addresses and notes to births, deaths, christenings, burials and marriages

Legacy 3.0 also adds global search and replace, support for European alphabets, spell-checking for all note fields and descendant narrative reports. One thing that hasn't changed is the software's price: $49.95 (or $24.95 for an upgrade). If you'd like to try before you buy, you can download a free demo version at www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Download.asp. (For a comparison of Legacy 2.0 and eight other Windows genealogy programs, see this feature article in the June issue of Family Tree Magazine.)
