Save the Earth while you save space and money in your genealogy search.
Many tips for saving genealogy storage space, such as printing less and communicating electronically, just happen to be good for the environment, too. Geneabloggers blogger Thomas MacEntee suggests
several ways genealogists can go green. For example, you can seek out online educational opportunities rather than traveling to learn. Societies can hold online chats and webinars instead of monthly meetings.
Lisa Green of
Green Genealogy Services travels to her research locations by foot, bicycle or public transportation. She uses a reconditioned MacBook and a printer from
Freecycle, a nonprofit group that facilitates reuse and recycling in communities all over the world. She also prints only when necessary and, instead of making photocopies, uses a digital SLR camera to photograph records at the library.
