Facebook

The world’s mightiest social networking site is also a tool to share your family history finds and connect with cousins. Plus all your genealogy favorites have pages here, from your genealogy software program to genealogy societies to subscription websites.

Family.me

This new website combines social networking with online family trees, and is working to connect users with the records on FamilySearch.org. The guiding principle is collaboration, so one family member doesn’t have to do all the genealogy heavy lifting.

Share your photos here, or view those shared by the National Archives, Library of Congress, Smithsonian and more. There’s even a whole group devoted to pictures of graves and cemeteries. Start with the “Photos, people or groups” search box at the top.

This image-sharing site (think family photos and screen grabs of old records) keeps adding new features. The latest are maps that work within your scrapbook-like “boards” and “rich pins” that include extra information (which can include place) right on the pin itself.

“The world’s largest genealogy wiki” is sponsored by the Foundation for On-Line Genealogy in partnership with the Allen County Public Library. Contributors have posted pages on nearly 2.7 million people to date.
