After 150 years of history in the United States, Chinese-Americans finally have a place to officially exhibit their culture, stories and impact on this country.
After 150 years of history in the United States, Chinese-Americans finally have a place to officially exhibit their culture, stories and impact on this country.
The Chinese-American National Museum and Learning Center opened this fall in San Francisco. The museum is located in a historic, renovated YWCA building in Chinatown. It showcases highlights from a collection of 50,000 pieces of art, artifacts, photographs and immigrant documents tracing the history of Chinese in America. The learning center offers educational programs, publications and special events to bring Chinese-American history to life. “We hope the museum and learning center will help dispel the myths and misperceptions of the Chinese still held by many Americans today,” says Melissa Szeto, executive director of the Chinese Historical Society of America.
