Great Scot! Online Records
6/1/2005
A new partnership is putting scads of Scottish roots records under one online roof.

A new partnership is putting scads of Scottish roots records under one online roof. ScotlandsPeople <www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk>, the genealogy data site of the General Records Office for Scotland, has teamed up with the National Archives of Scotland <www.scottishdocuments.com> and the Court of the Lord Lyon <www.lyon-court.com> (Scotland's heraldic authority) to expand its offerings. A new, rebranded site will add millions more records to the 40 million already available at ScotlandsPeople. Among the new material: the Scottish archives' historical wills and testaments — previously accessible at <www.scottishdocuments.com> — as well as armorial and genealogical records from the Court of the Lord Lyon.

The three organizations also are collaborating on a Scottish family history research facility near the General Register House and the New Register House buildings in Edinburgh. The research center is slated to open by the end of 2006.
