The National Genealogical Society hosts its Warm up Your Research conference in Phoenix.

By Diane Haddad

The National Genealogical Society (NGS) gives you an excuse to escape the cold this winter with its Warm up Your Research conference Jan. 20-22, 2005, in Phoenix. Conference workshops and lectures cover family history software, online research, professional genealogy, basic techniques and finding ethnic roots. Registration costs $185 for NGS members and $240 for nonmembers, or $125 per day. Call (800) 473-0060  for more information.

Warm up Your Research will take place at downtown Phoenix's Wyndham Hotel - formerly the Crowne Plaza, which sued NGS over its 11th-hour cancellation of the January 2003 GENTECH genealogy-technology conference.

New England Web Site Gets a New Look

The New England Historic Genealogical Society has revamped its Web site.

The New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) <www.newenglandancestors.org> has revamped its Web site with a cleaner look and quicker access to its features. Five main navigation tabs - Home, Research, Libraries, Marketplace and Education Center - replace the site's overwhelming original 14 tabs. The home page highlights what's new on the site, as well as NEHGS membership information. Searching is more accurate, and a Reference Room (under the Research tab) provides materials such as New England town guides. Maps and dictionaries are planned.
