Giving Trees
By Diane Haddad

Steal the show at this year's holiday get-together. Your relatives will clamor for these quick, easy-to-make family history gifts.

You can use these templates to make several of the family tree gifts featured in the December 2006 Family Tree Magazine. See the magazine for full instructions for each project.

Click on a link to open a file. If the file doesn't automatically download to your computer, PC users should right-click on the link, and Mac users should hold down the Control button and click. Then select Save Image to Desktop (or Save File, in the case of a Microsoft Word or PDF document). Please note some of these files are large and may take a few minutes to load.

When you print one of the Word files, you may receive an alert that the margins are outside the printable area of the page. Click "Continue" to go ahead and print; your page will print just fine.

To open PDF documents, you'll need the Adobe Reader. Most computers already have this software, but if yours doesn't, you can download it free from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Plant a Memory
Following are three blank designs for heirloom plant tags. The first file is a PDF—use this file if you want to print blank tags and then hand write the plant's name, significance and care instructions. If you'd rather type everything, use the second file, a Word document with text boxes for the plant information.

Go Ahead, Brag a Little
The first file below is a PDF document containing patterns for the cover and spine pieces for the album project. (The file also gives instructions for adapting the patterns to fit different size albums.) The second file is a Word document containing the pattern for the album label and a text box where you can type your family name. You'll need to download both files to complete the project.

Cook Up Family History
The first file below is a PDF document containing blank recipe card designs for the family recipe box project—use this file if you want to print blank cards and hand write the recipes. If you'd rather type the recipes, use the second file, a Word document containing the cards and text boxes you can type in. The third file contains the oval shapes we used to crop the photo on the recipe box lid.
