National Family History Month: Let's Make It Official!

Black history has one; so does breast cancer awareness, poetry, safety, crafts, apples, you name it. All these topics have a nationally designated month to draw attention to them, educate the public about them and celebrate their benefits. Finally, a senator is working on getting family history its own month to shine in the nation's spotlight. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) is sponsoring a resolution in the US Senate that would officially declare October as National Family History Month.

You can help make this happen. Ask your senators to support this resolution:

Subject: Support National Family History Month

Please support Sen. Orrin Hatch's resolution to declare October as National Family History Month. Family history is one of America's favorite and most enriching hobbies. As one person among 60 percent of Americans interested in their family history, I can tell you that it's a powerful way to connect with your roots while preserving your own family's memories for future generations. By making October National Family History Month, you will be helping millions of Americans discover, preserve and celebrate their heritage, both now and for generations to come.

Sincerely,
