Look for continued growth from FamilyLink.com, owner of World Vital Records, FamiliyHistoryLink, the soon-to-come WorldHistory.com and the We’re Related social networking application (which is not related to the wiki We Relate).

The company has raised $2.85 million in “Series B” funding (the second round of preferred stock in a private company offered to venture capitalists). The initial round of funding in August 2007 brought in $1.25 million.

FamilyLink.com’s announcement also notes the company turned profitable late last year. Thirty people work at its US offices in Seattle; Boulder, CO; and Provo, Utah. It has development offices in India and the Philippines.

  1. I’m happy for them as their product is decent — but they need to come up with a better subscription format. I subscribed to the US database last year on a promo for two years – it expires in 2/9/2010. Then I took advantage of what I thought was an upgrade offer to the Worldwide database. Turns out I had two subscriptions running concurrently – the worldwide from 2/22/08 to 2/22/09 and the US from 2/9/2008 to 2/9/2010.

When I noticed this, I asked that the subscriptons be combined and the expiry date adjusted. Oh no, we can’t do that exclaimed the CSR – you received promotion pricing and we can’t adjust. I just wanted them combined, they could have shortened the US and lengthen the Worldwide, but Oh no we can’t do that.

What a bunch of malarky – I let the Worldwide expire and will wait until the US expires before I consider signing up again.
