- FamilySearch has announced its speaker lineup for the 2014 RootsTech conference, Feb. 6-8 in Salt Lake City, and it looks like the focus on family stories will continue. Thursday’s keynote speaker is Ree Drummund, aka the Food Network’s “Pioneer Woman,” whose show is about the recipes she cooks for her family on their Oklahoma cattle ranch. I DVR it and haven’t seen genealogy mentioned, but Drummond is a storyteller through her blog. Other speakers include NieNie Dialogues blogger Stephanie Nielson and BYUtv’s “The Story Trek” host Todd Hansen.
Speakers along more strictly genealogical/technological lines include DC Thompson Family History CEO Annelies van den Belt, Genographic Project director Spencer Wells and Legal Genealogist blogger Judy G. Russell.
- About.com Genealogy expert Kimberly Powell of Oakdale, Pa., has been named president of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) for 2014-2015. She succeeds outgoing president Kenyatta Berry. See the full election results for APG’s 2014-2015 executive committee on the association’s website.
