Google is Changing How We Interact With Our Photos

Google Photos is trying to change the way we interact with our images. In their recent press release they introduced new AI tools they’re integrating into their popular platform. AI stands for artificial intelligence.

Here’s what you need to know:

Suggested Actions

Sharing: You’ve uploaded over time several images of family members.  Now Google AI will ask you if you want to share those pictures with those folks.  One click and you’re done. Shared.

Other prompts:

  • If your photo is too dark, AI will suggest lightening it.
  • Sideways picture?  You’ll be asked if you want to rotate it.
  • Have you scanned a document and want to share it, sure, but now you’ll be asked if you want to convert it to a pdf.  I can see this being one of the most popular features.  My scanner has controls to save documents as pdf’s and yours does too. It appears that Google wants to offer this pdf option to those of us taking pictures of documents using their Photo Scan app so that we can easily email them in this format.
  • Perhaps you’ve wanted to see your old photos in color, it’s possible.  One click and the changes are instantaneous. Users beware though.  These are not historical accurate colors.  The greens are too bright and so are the rest of the colors.  It’s pretty cool, but don’t think your grandparents lawn was exactly that shade.

These changes aren’t available yet. Watch for them in the next several months. Read more about it on Gadgets 360.

More changes to come:

  • February’s press release covered how to use Google Photos into themed movies.
  • In March, they announced Google Lens for IOS and Android devices.
  • April’s news was for Android users. They will be able to use a new video editor. I don’t know about you, but my head is spinning.  It’s going to take some time to get up to speed.

Do you use Google Photos?  Please sound off on the positive and negatives of it.
