The Hynes Convention Center, site of the Federation of Genealogical Societies’ 2006 conference, is in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay.

The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies will put on its own oversize conference <www.jgsny2006.org> Aug. 13-18 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. An anticipated 2,000 researchers from around the world will attend lectures, hands-on computer classes, networking functions, exhibits and even musical events. Organizers’ international focus brings speakers from countries as distant as Uzbekistan, and a series of programs is tailored to New York’s large Russian Jewish population. Special interest groups will discuss Galicia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Sephardic world and more.

IAJGS conference registration costs $250; the daily rate, available Sunday through Thursday, is $75. Visit the Web site for information.
