First, take a DNA test to determine if there’s any traits showing Native American blood. While having no traces doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility, having the specific markers is a great first step. Then, follow the paper trail. Start with yourself and work backwards to find your Native American ancestor’s tribe, which can help you narrow down what documents may be available and where you can find them.
