You'll love this if...

  • You're the keeper of multiple family heirlooms
  • You'd like to create a visual and written record of heirlooms passed down in your family (in your possession or not)
  • You want to ensure the stories behind family artifacts and keepsakes aren't lost
  • You're seeking an affordable alternative to buying large quantities of archival supplies

How will you keep track of the keepsakes and objects that have special meaning to your family? Family Tree Magazine recommends inventorying your family heirlooms so their stories and history aren't lost—and genealogically valuable items don't accidentally get tossed!

If you're unsure how to document and catalog family artifacts, or find the task intimidating, here's your solution: the Heirloom Inventory Kit.

This kit is part of our exclusive Family Archivist line of archival kits designed especially for genealogists. Family Tree Magazine's experts have handpicked the right tools for the job, so you can spend less time researching archival products and more time researching your genealogy.

Family Archivist Kits feature:

  • archival-safe products from Gaylord, a trusted supplier to archivists and librarians
  • step-by-step instructions to make completing your archiving project easy, delivered as a downloadable PDF and written by Family Tree Magazine's Family Archivist columnist Sunny Jane Morton

Family Archivist kits save you money, too! Most archival supplies are sold in large quantities. Purchased separately, the items in this Heirloom Inventory Kit would cost more than $80. With the kit, you get only the quantities you need—and avoid paying for extra items you don't.

The Heirloom Inventory Kit contains all the supplies to catalog 25 family heirlooms, including:

This one contains alcohol-based ink with no harsh solvents and writes on virtually any surface, including film, glass, metal, rubber, foil and resin-coated papers. Permanent on most surfaces, the ink can be removed from solid, non-porous surfaces with a solvent such as alcohol. Contains a fine-point marker on one end and an extra-fine plastic tip on the other.

Pigma Identi-Pen

ID your heirlooms with a tag cut from archival folder stock and pre-strung with soft unbleached cotton string that's knotted at the end. Simply write write your label, slip the string through your heirloom and loop it over the tag.
