What's Inside

The Online Records Guidebook eBook features:

  • Detailed step-by-step guides to finding key genealogy records, such as birth records, military pensions, and US census returns, online
  • Tips and suggestions for maximizing your family history research on ancestry websites and other genealogy resources
  • Helpful case studies that apply key concepts to real-life searches

Excerpt: Sample Tips

Here are some tips you'll find in The Online Records Guidebook eBook:

  • Double-check your facts. While sources such as obituaries and census records can be helpful and contain valuable information about your ancestors, they're not infallible. Be sure to validate what you find in records (of all kinds) by consulting multiple sources. This is especially important for user-submitted information like online family trees.
  • Think broadly about what records your ancestors may have left behind. Many researchers focus only on vital records and US federal censuses, but your ancestors created a variety of records (such as land records and military records) that can hold clues to your family's past. Widen your search to include multiple kinds of records.

The Online Records Guidebook eBook comes in PDF format and can be printed out or viewed on your tablet, laptop, or desktop computer for easy reference while working with your family memories.
