Calculating DNA Relationships Video Download

Determine Relationships with DNA

Aunts, uncles, cousins...we know what those terms mean, right? But when it comes to genealogy, sometimes the relationships aren't so cut-and-dried, especially when DNA gets involved. In this video presentation, you'll learn how relationships are calculated by the DNA companies, taking into account special situations and covering what "distant cousin" means for each.

When Relationships Aren't Straightforward

Not every relationship is clear, especially when it comes to sharing DNA. If your family members have half-slblings, endogamy, or other circumstances, it can make determining the exact relationships unclear. In this video presentation, you'll gain a strong sense of how to calculate the estimated relationships between yourself as well as people in your match list.

This presentation will cover:

  • Relationship terms such as "cousins," "half" and "removed"
  • How each company categorizes your matches
  • What a centimorgan is and why you need to know about it
  • Tools that can help you calculate your relationships better
  • Special situations such as multiple relationship paths, endogamy and X-DNA
