You’ll love this eBook if…

  • You’ve received your DNA test results and want to know what comes next
  • You’re considering taking a DNA test but don’t know how genetic genealogy can help your research
  • You crave more DNA analysis tools to use in your research

You’ve sent in your DNA sample and finally received your results…but what comes next? DNA can be confusing, and testing companies can sometimes give you unrealistic expectations about what their tests can tell you. This eBook will help you sort the fact from the hype and decipher your atDNA test results. This downloadable guide has guides to the autosomal-DNA tests offered by the major testing companies, plus how to use more analysis tools to decrypt your test results and use them in your research.

What’s Inside

The Understanding and Applying Your DNA Test Results eBook features:

  • A guide for how atDNA tests (the most common type of DNA tests) work, plus what your results will look like
  • Information on what you can reasonably expect your results to tell you, plus the truth about ethnicity estimates and how to use DNA to burst down brick walls
  • Additional resources for analyzing your results with other online tools, plus resources for learning more about genetic genealogy

Excerpt: Sample Tips

Here are some tips you’ll find in the Understanding and Applying Your DNA Test Results eBook:

  • Treat your ethnicity estimates with a grain of salt. DNA companies like to advertise their tests with the idea that they can help you discover what “percent” German, Irish or other nationality you are. In reality, these calculations are imprecise and merely estimates, so you shouldn’t rely on them to describe your ancestors’ national origins.
  • Remember that not all cousins will share DNA. You inherit roughly 50 percent of your autosomal DNA from each parent, but each sibling receives a different collection of DNA. As a result, you may not show up as a genetic match with people who are in fact related to you. For example, relationships beyond the second-cousin level can be hard to detect with DNA.

The Understanding and Applying Your DNA Test Results eBook comes in PDF format and can be printed out or viewed on your tablet, laptop, or desktop computer for easy reference while working with your family memories.
