Inside Sources: WPA Vital Records Inventories
During the 1930s and ’40s, the Work Projects Administration’s Historical Records Survey put thousands of people to work inventorying and indexing old documents including state and local birth, marriage and death records. Their efforts resulted in published vital-records inventories such as Guide to Public Vital Statistics Records in Florida and other similarly named tomes.
